Engr. Samuel Onyinye Okoro

Patron, Chief Technical Consultant / Director of Mineral Strategy (B.Sc. Geology, UNIZIK/UNN | Member of MIREMCO)

Engr. Samuel Onyinye Okoro is a distinguished geologist and a transformative figure in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector. Known affectionately in professional circles as “Aka Ajah Ajah” for his tireless work ethic, he brings over two decades of hands-on experience in mineral resource management, extraction, and sectoral reform to the Earthcore leadership team.

The Architect of Modern Mining in Enugu

Samuel’s career is defined by breaking barriers. Most notably, he anchored the landmark shift to surface mining extraction in Enugu State, successfully dispelling decades-old beliefs dating back to the British colonial era that only underground mining was viable. This technical breakthrough has fundamentally unlocked the mineral potential of the region, creating new pathways for sustainable resource development.

Public Service & Regulatory Leadership

His reputation for integrity and technical brilliance led to his appointment as the Special Adviser to the Governor of Enugu State on Solid Minerals and Mining. In this capacity, and as the Chairman of the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO), he has been instrumental in:

  • Policy Reform: Developing investor-friendly frameworks and standardized templates for mining operations.

  • Formalization: Drastically reducing illegal mining activities and reactivating dormant sites to boost national productivity.

  • Conflict Resolution: Building transparent, harmonious relationships between international investors and host communities.

Academic & Technical Foundation

A lifelong student of the earth sciences, Samuel holds a degree in Geology from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). Always pushing the boundaries of his expertise, he is currently advancing his technical repertoire with a second degree in Mining Engineering.

Awards & International Recognition

His commitment to ethical leadership has earned him prestigious continental honors, including:

  • The Kwame Nkrumah Leadership Prize for Excellence: Awarded by the Council of African Youth.

  • Exemplary Leadership Award: Conferred by the Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy for his strategic contributions to governance and sectoral restructuring.

Core Philosophy

Samuel believes that the future of African mining lies at the intersection of innovation, transparency, and faith. At Earthcore, he ensures that every project is technically sound, regulatory-compliant, and socially responsible.
